Suicide Prevention Week Resources

September 8–14, 2025

The construction industry faces one of the highest rates of suicide among all occupations. Together, we can change that. Suicide Prevention Week is an important opportunity to raise awareness, share resources, and remind every worker that help is available and no one is alone.

It’s important to recognize the strong connection between mental health, substance use, and suicide risk.

Stress, depression, chronic pain, and substance misuse can all overlap, creating challenges that impact workers both on and off the jobsite. By addressing these issues together, we can build safer workplaces and stronger support systems.

This page brings together free tools, trainings, and resources to help your team prepare, engage, and support one another.

How to Get Started

Step One:
Take the free MindForge course

Leaders can assign the Warning Signs and What to Do course to their teams. Encourage workers to download their Certificates of Completion so you can track participation and document training efforts.

Step Two:
Plan your communications

Use the Message Center to:

  • Remind workers of the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

  • Promote Suicide Prevention Week events.

  • Share reminders to “Be Your Brother’s Keeper” and look out for one another.
Step Three:
Share resources

Download free awareness posters and toolbox talks (English & Spanish) and share them through the Message Center.

Print and post 988 posters in places where employees gather or pass daily (breakrooms, trailers, entrances, restrooms, time clocks) so the number is always visible.

Step Four:
Train Supervisors

Choose from multiple free and low-cost trainings and videos (CIASP, AGC, AFSP, and more). Make sure your supervisory staff are equipped to spot warning signs, start conversations, and connect workers to resources.

Step Five:
Prepare for overdoses

Incorporate overdose response into your safety program with ANSW’s free Naloxone training and policy templates (English & Spanish). Supervisors can post awareness materials and review them during safety meetings.

Step Six:
Tell the story

Share our blog featuring Bob Knuz (Dimeo Construction) and Mandi Kime (AGC of Washington). Use these stories to start conversations with your teams about the real impacts of mental health and substance abuse in construction.
