How Pepper Construction Ohio Standardized Orientation and Reached 39,000+ Field Communications with MindForge

1. Too Many Binders, Too Little Clarity

Pepper Construction Ohio oversees a wide range of jobsites across the region, each with its own teams, risks, and safety requirements. Their goal was to deliver consistent, site-specific orientations to every worker—whether self-perform or trade partner—while maintaining clear, ongoing communication about jobsite conditions, safety alerts, and expectations.

Before adopting MindForge, tracking orientation completions and maintaining accurate documentation across multiple projects was time-consuming and error-prone. That lack of visibility became a serious challenge when an OSHA inspection required historical orientation records. Fortunately, by that point, Pepper had implemented MindForge—and was able to quickly retrieve and provide the necessary data, eliminating the stress of scrambling through paper files.

“We had an OSHA inspection as a result of an injury on a job site... MindForge helped us pull those records immediately, get them to the OSHA inspector, and really help make their job easier as well.”
- John Shea

2. Clear, Consistent Orientations and Alerts

With MindForge, Pepper launched a site-specific orientation approach using QR codes for onboarding workers, internally-produced video content, automated assignments and completion tracking.

To date:

  • 5,423 site-specific orientation assignments have been issued
  • Workers have completed 92%
  • 39,000+ jobsite message views have been logged

“MindForge has really projected us into a way where that data is available within seconds, right at our fingertips.”
- John Shea

Pepper also uses MindForge to send urgent and routine updates directly to the field—whether that’s a weather delay, a crane pick, or a team lunch.

“We… love being able to push out those area-specific alerts and give people a heads up, especially when we're talking about overhead work, crane operations, rooftop operations.”
- John Shea

3. Training That Tracks—No More Paper Chasing

Pepper moved away from paper toolbox talks in favor of internally produced weekly digital safety videos shared through MindForge. Crews can watch on-site, during breaks, or when convenient, and safety leaders can see who’s engaging.

“I can go in and say, okay, these people watched it, these people didn’t.”
- John Shea

4. Real-Time Data, Real Jobsite Impact

MindForge’s tracking and engagement tools have helped Pepper improve its compliance, accountability, and responsiveness. Toolbox talk engagement can now be measured. Orientation completion is no longer a guessing game. And safety communications hit their targets fast.

“MindForge has been a tremendous platform for us... from the interest of pushing out information, information tracking, and then also organization compliance when we talk about safety orientations and toolbox talks.”
- John Shea
